2.1L Twin-Turbo Diesel | 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive | 7-Speed Automatic
If you're shopping for an older Mercedes-Benz diesel, the condition and maintenance history matter far more than simply finding the cheapest one online.
That's exactly why we liked this 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC.
It has a clean CARFAX with no accidents or damage reported, 30 documented service records, three previous owners, extensive Mercedes-Benz dealer history, documented transmission service and a previous Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned history.
And before putting it up for sale, we brought it into Ridgeline Automotive and treated it like the 132K-mile Mercedes diesel that it is.
Our philosophy with a vehicle like this is pretty simple.
A used Mercedes-Benz diesel needs more than a quick visual inspection and the cheapest oil change available.
We brought the ML into Ridgeline Automotive, our full-service repair facility and NAPA Auto Care Center, and went through the vehicle before offering it for sale.
One of the services we specifically wanted to perform was a premium engine oil service using BG products and quality European-spec oil.
We started with BG EPR Engine Performance Restoration before draining the old engine oil.
EPR isn't simply an oil additive that gets poured into the fresh oil. It is used with the old oil before the oil change to help clean deposits from the lubrication system, including deposits around piston rings and other internal oil passages. The old oil and suspended contaminants are then drained out.
Once that process was completed, we installed a quality new oil filter and filled the engine with the proper high-quality European-spec full synthetic engine oil.
Then we added BG DOC Diesel Oil Conditioner to the fresh oil.
So instead of:
Drain old oil. Install cheap filter. Add bulk oil. Done.
Our service was:
BG EPR engine cleaning treatment
Drain the old oil and contaminants
Quality new oil filter
Correct high-quality European full synthetic oil
BG DOC Diesel Oil Conditioner added to the fresh oil
For a higher-mileage turbo-diesel Mercedes that we intend to put our name behind, that's how we'd rather service it.
The ML 250 BlueTEC uses a sophisticated turbocharged Mercedes diesel engine.
Oil isn't just lubricating the basic engine internals. It also has to deal with turbocharger heat, soot contamination and the demands of a modern emissions-equipped diesel.
That's why we're particular about the oil we use.
We're not claiming that an EPR service magically makes a 132,000-mile engine new again. It doesn't.
What we're doing is starting the next owner with fresh, high-quality oil, a quality filter and a lubrication system that has received more attention than the typical used-car-lot oil change.
That's a relatively small detail in an advertisement, but it's exactly the type of detail we think matters when you're buying an older European vehicle.
We don't judge a vehicle like this solely by whether there are warning lights on the dashboard.
Our inspection process is designed to look at the entire vehicle and determine whether it's something we're comfortable putting on our lot.
That means checking the major mechanical and safety systems, scanning the vehicle's electronic modules, checking fluid condition and levels, looking underneath the vehicle for leaks or damage, inspecting the brakes, tires and suspension, evaluating the engine and drivetrain, checking the electrical equipment and then actually driving the vehicle.
That's especially important with a Mercedes BlueTEC.
These are sophisticated vehicles. The diesel engine, turbocharging system, 4MATIC drivetrain, 7-speed transmission, diesel emissions system, DEF/AdBlue system and electronics all deserve attention.
We'd rather spend the time in the shop before the sale than discover something obvious with the customer after the sale.
This isn't simply an ML with a smaller engine.
For 2015, Mercedes replaced the previous V6 diesel ML 350 BlueTEC with the more efficient ML 250 BlueTEC.
Under the hood is a 2.1-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel producing approximately 200 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
That torque is what makes the engine work so well in this SUV.
The diesel doesn't need to rev hard to move the ML. It produces strong torque low in the RPM range, which makes it particularly well suited to highway cruising, mountain driving and everyday Colorado use.
It's paired with Mercedes-Benz's 7-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. CARFAX confirms this ML's 2.1L diesel engine and AWD configuration.
One of the reasons people specifically search for the ML 250 BlueTEC is its efficiency.
When new, the ML 250 BlueTEC was EPA-rated at approximately 22 MPG city and 29 MPG highway.
Think about what you're getting with that:
A substantial Mercedes-Benz luxury SUV.
All-wheel drive.
Nearly 370 lb-ft of torque.
Comfortable seating for five.
Excellent highway manners.
And fuel economy approaching 30 MPG on the highway.
For someone regularly driving Boulder to Denver, heading into the mountains or taking longer interstate trips, this is where the diesel really shines.
This ML belongs to Mercedes-Benz's W166 generation, one of our favorite generations of the M-Class.
Shortly after this vehicle was built, Mercedes changed its SUV naming structure and the M-Class became the GLE.
So this is essentially the predecessor to today's Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The W166 was designed to be a substantial luxury SUV without becoming enormous. It has a comfortable highway ride, excellent seating position, useful cargo space and the solid feel people expect from a Mercedes.
BlueTEC was Mercedes-Benz's name for its modern clean-diesel technology.
This isn't an old-school mechanical diesel.
The ML 250 uses a sophisticated emissions system that includes Diesel Exhaust Fluid, also called DEF or AdBlue, along with modern diesel emissions-control equipment.
That's something buyers should understand.
These systems add complexity, which is another reason maintenance history and a proper inspection matter when buying one.
The tradeoff is a combination that's increasingly difficult to find in a modern SUV:
Strong diesel torque, excellent highway fuel economy, long cruising range, AWD and Mercedes-Benz comfort.
The CARFAX history is one of the biggest reasons we were comfortable buying this vehicle.
CARFAX reports 30 service-history records and three previous owners.
A large amount of its servicing was performed at actual Mercedes-Benz dealerships, including:
Mercedes-Benz of Coconut Creek
Mercedes-Benz Hilton Head
Mercedes-Benz of Asheville
That's exactly what we want to see on an older European luxury vehicle.
There's also an interesting chapter in its history.
At approximately 42,578 miles, the ML was offered for sale through a Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned dealer as a Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.
At that time it received a pre-delivery inspection, four new tires, mounting and balancing, a four-wheel alignment and wheel repair.
That Certified Pre-Owned coverage is long expired, of course, but it tells us something about this vehicle's earlier life.
This isn't a CARFAX with 30 entries that are all tire rotations.
At 62,318 miles, Mercedes-Benz Hilton Head performed the documented 60,000-mile service. Shortly afterward, the engine mounts were replaced, followed by replacement of the left axle and a wheel.
At approximately 69,000 miles, the braking system received substantial work, including brake pads and both front and rear brake rotors.
And one of the service records we particularly like seeing on a higher-mileage Mercedes comes at 93,073 miles.
That service included:
A documented transmission service is a meaningful piece of history on a vehicle like this.
The third owner drove this ML very little compared with the average driver.
Most recently, at 130,018 miles in May 2026, Mercedes-Benz of Asheville performed another maintenance inspection and specifically documented checking:
It now has 132,790 miles and has subsequently gone through our own Ridgeline inspection and servicing before being offered for sale.
CARFAX reports:
For an 11-year-old European luxury SUV, that's a history we're happy to show customers.
We know that buying a 132,000-mile Mercedes-Benz is different from buying a 132,000-mile Corolla.
That's why we're selective.
We liked this ML because it combines a clean CARFAX, 30 service records, extensive Mercedes-Benz dealer maintenance, previous Mercedes CPO history, documented 60K service, documented transmission service and recent Mercedes-Benz dealer inspection.
Then we put it through our own shop.
We inspected it.
We scanned it.
We road-tested it.
And instead of giving it the cheapest possible oil change, we performed the kind of BG EPR, quality full-synthetic European oil, quality-filter and BG DOC diesel oil service that we'd want done if we were keeping the vehicle ourselves.
That's the Ridgeline difference.
We also believe in setting realistic expectations.
This is a 2015 Mercedes-Benz diesel with 132,790 miles.
It isn't a brand-new GLE, and we're not going to pretend that it is.
Any older European luxury vehicle is going to require maintenance as it continues to age.
But there's a major difference between buying one with an unknown background and buying one with 30 documented service records, substantial Mercedes-Benz dealer history, documented transmission maintenance, no accidents reported and a fresh Ridgeline inspection and premium oil service.
We'd much rather sell the second one.
This ML includes our:
FREE 3-Month / 3,000-Mile Enhanced Powertrain Warranty
FREE First Oil Change
FREE 3,000-Mile Quality Control Inspection
That 3,000-mile QC inspection is important to us. Once you've actually lived with and driven the vehicle, bring it back and let us look it over again.
Extended warranty options are also available for customers looking for additional protection.
Ridgeline Automotive is a NAPA Auto Care Center, and qualifying preventative-maintenance and repair services performed through our shop can include a 2-Year / 24,000-Mile Nationwide Peace of Mind Warranty.
We don't simply wash vehicles and put them on the lot.
Every vehicle goes through a comprehensive inspection, receives the maintenance and repairs it needs, and is extensively road-tested before being offered for sale.
Our goal is simple:
Sell vehicles we'd be comfortable putting our own family in.
And because Ridgeline Auto Brokers operates alongside Ridgeline Automotive, our full-service repair facility, our relationship doesn't have to end when you drive off the lot.
"They actually fix their cars before selling them. Huge difference."
"Best car buying experience I've ever had—no pressure, super transparent."
"Vehicle was exactly as described."
"One of the few dealerships I actually trust."
"Very knowledgeable and easy to work with."
"Super smooth process and no hidden fees."
"You can tell they stand behind what they sell."
"Ridgeline goes far beyond what most dealerships do mechanically before sale."
